NFL Roster Rumors: Brock Osweiler Interested In Remaining With The Denver Broncos cheap nfl jerseys
Quarterback Brock Osweiler never got the chance to make much of an impact with the Denver Broncos last year, but he does not seem to be interested in testing the market as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In a recent interview with 9NEWS’ Mike Klis, Osweiler admitted that he would love to continue playing for the Broncos until he retires.
“I told John at the end of the season that I would love to be a Bronco. And I’d love to finish my career as a Bronco. I told him regardless of what role I have, being a Bronco is something I take great pride in and is something that means a lot to me,” Osweiler said, referring to his exit interview with Broncos executive vice president of football operations and general manager John Elway after the 2017 season ended.
“I told John that I want to come back and be part of the solution. To help fix the football team and get things back to where they should be, the way the Denver Broncos operate,” he continued. Of course, Osweiler understands that there is a big chance he will have to play elsewhere next season.
At the moment, the Broncos are expected to move Trevor Siemian in the coming weeks while they search for a new starting quarterback. But, they still have Paxton Lynch and Chad Kelly on the roster, so they do not have to bring in another quarterback to act as a backup for their new starter.
Still, bringing back Osweiler is an interesting option if they miss out on Kirk Cousins or Case Keenum.
Osweiler had five touchdowns and five interceptions in six games (four starts) with the Broncos last season, and he completed 96 of his 172 pass attempts (55.8 percent) for 1,088 yards, averaging 6.3 yards per attempt. He was sacked 10 times.
Brock Osweiler an obvious bridge option for Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals need to rebuild their quarterback position, and Brock Osweiler is a player that could help bridge the gap…
There may not be any team in the NFL about to undergo so much change this offseason as the Arizona Cardinals.
The Cardinals obviously lost head coach Bruce Arians to retirement, and he was replaced by Steve Wilks. Wilks hired offensive coordinator Mike McCoy to his staff, and with three impending free agents and the retirement of Carson Palmer, there’s going to obviously be an overhaul at the quarterback position.
One player that makes some obvious sense as a ‘bridge’ type of player is Denver Broncos unrestricted free agent Brock Osweiler.
Osweiler obviously has familiarity with Mike McCoy, dating back to his rookie season in Denver and then obviously this past season having worked with him for as long as McCoy had his job in Denver.
The Cardinals aren’t in a great position in the draft this year, so they may need a veteran player like Osweiler to come in and hold down the fort and he’s a guy that already has a leg up on other competition, as he knows McCoy’s offense well.
Not only does Osweiler have experience with McCoy, but he would be returning to the state in which he played his college football.
Osweiler played his college ball at Arizona State, so the opportunity to return to Arizona could appeal to him.
This fit just seems to obvious not to happen this offseason. Add in the fact like I mentioned before, the Cardinals have three players at the position right now whose contracts are expiring.
This will be a team that is undoubtedly in the market for a couple of quarterbacks this offseason, through free agency, trades, the draft, or whatever other avenue they have to look.
There’s obviously also potential the Cardinals could look to bring back one or a couple of Blaine Gabbert, Drew Stanton, or Matt Barkley, but if they bring in someone from the outside, Osweiler makes a lot of sense.
