Every Sunday, he watched the Eagles. Brian Dawkins was his favorite player — “seeing Brian Dawkins coming out of the tunnel is a lasting image for me,” he said — and he loved watching Brian Westbrook.
He was a fan, but he never actually sat in the stands at the Linc in his life until last year, when he drove from Delaware to Philadelphia for the NFC Divisional playoff matchup between the Eagles and Falcons, his old team.
Here’s everything to know about the Eagles’ newest linebacker
Height/Weight: 6-1, 232
NFL Experience: Atlanta Falcons (2013-16), Detroit Lions (2017)
Career stats: 416 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, 11 pass deflections
He’s from around here
As mentioned, Worrilow grew close by in Wilmington, Delaware, where he prepped at Concord High School.
“This is just, this is it for me,” Worrilow said. “Driving by the stadium as a kid all the time, used to look out and see the Linc. That’s where I wanted to play. It’s nice to be home.”
Worrilow’s only college scholarship offers coming out of high school were at the Division II level, so he walked on at Delaware and quickly worked his way into a scholarship and starting spot. After a stellar college career — 377 career tackles, 2012 FCS All-American — Worrilow went un-drafted in 2013 and signed with the Falcons.
“The biggest thing I just learned through all that is I don’t look down the road,” Worrilow said. “It’s just staying so hyper-focused in the present and making the present the primary. That’s something I’ve been able to do really well where I don’t get hung up on ‘man, I don’t know if I’m going to make this team next year’ or ‘so and so is not recruiting me’. I think I’ve done a good job of just staying in the present and I think that’s helped me throughout my career.”
Along the way, Worrilow had a vision.
“I remember telling my wife: I hope this is my drive to work next year,” Worrilow said.
Wednesday, vision became reality when Worrilow signed a one-year contract with the Eagles, a signing aimed at adding depth at linebacker and production on special teams.
Brian Dawkins announces former Eagles teammate as his Pro Football Hall of Fame presenter
Brian Dawkins officially announced his presenter for the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony. Dawkins is going with none other than his former Philadelphia Eagles teammate: Troy Vincent.
“Well, the presenter that will actually be on stage will be Troy Vincent. He was my teammate in Philadelphia.
We came there the same year. Almost from day one, he kinda … not kinda, he took me up under his wing. Becoming a professional, not just a football player, but a professional. The details. Like, the details that he went through, meticulous, of how he played the position of cornerback, was the same way that he lived his life. And his calendars and his businesses that he had off the field.
But he’s a guy that I can call at any time. Any time of night. And tell him 100% raw what’s going on with me. And I know he’s not going to judge me. It’s not going to leave his lips or anybody else. The most important thing for me, a man of faith, is that I know he’s going to pray with me.
And so all those things combined is the reason why Troy was the perfect guy to introduce me into the Hall of Fame.”
Vincent, who currently serves as the NFL’s executive vice president of football operations, publicly commented on Dawkins’ selection.
Dawkins and Vincent played in Philadelphia together from 1996 through 2003. They played on some really good defenses together during that span.
But it’s not just about what the former teammates accomplished on the field. Dawkins and Vincent have clearly formed a life-long bond as friends.
It’ll be cool to see one great former Eagles player presenting his Hall of Fame teammate this summer.
This year’s Enshrinement Ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 4 at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Start time is 7:00 PM ET.
